"What stereotypes do people have about you? What stereotypes do you have about other people? Are stereotypes beneficial or harmful? Why do you think this?"
A lot of people tend to judge me by my first impression, which usually is taken as a frigid girl. Not that it is wrong of them, to take first impression important, but I tend to be the opposite when I strike up a friendship. I become a loud, I suppose, and a silly person when I feel comfortable with certain people.
On the other hand, there are some stereotypes that I tend to have about others. I tend to think that if a person is amazingly talented at art, they must be horrible at math. One further stereotype would be 'celebrities tend to be stupid', I suppose. Although I often find exceptions, I tend to keep on judge in certain way.
I think stereotypes are most definitely harmful, because it seems to create a wall between people, and blocks them further apart, with prejudice and misconception.

Russia's sex slave industry thrives, rights groups say
CNN.com
This short clip, from CNN.com, is basically investigating the sex slave industry in Moscow, Russia. According to the clip, customers line up with their car headlights and are asked to pay between $100 and $700 for a woman. Numerous young women are forced to prostitute as sex slaves on the streets. When CNN actually went undercover as potential customers and spoke to the prostitutes, the female organizer said "Take your pick from any of the girls; the expensive ones are on the right, for $600 and $700 a night. The women on the left are $100." Just the fact that there actually is a price tagged to a woman, is unbelievable, but to see an actual transaction between women, is truly the shocking of all. Towards the end of the clip, Christine decides to escape after meeting a woman from a church. She said, "I was crying all the time, telling her, 'I don't want this kind of job,' "

Stereotypes journal entry
Margaret Ahn
I often have absent-minded facial expression. It’s not intended, but because of the accordance to my appearance, people see me abstracted. Because of this behavior, people often judge me as an “absent-brain” person. Not that I’m actually very good or passionate about academics, how people judge me as dumb person is wrong. People always make facial expression of “you? No way!” whenever they hear what math course I take.
Even though I do not like people who judge people not even knowing them, I often find myself being that kind of person, too. In Korean School high school, students are separated into two sections: liberal arts, science department. Even though I found many exceptions, I judge people who are good in math would not be good at language part.
Stereotypes cannot be beneficial. There is no benefit from having only limited perspective, which is prejudice. I think stereotype is made by inevitable human instinct. People tend to generalize a statement by what seems to be the pattern or what seems to be true most of the time.

They tried to go out of country for better opportunity and send money to the family by mail. A young African child was sent from his father to learn trade; however, result was the slave life. Those three people’s dream and future was completely demolished. This video implies that anyone can be the victim of human trafficking.

Rina: Human Trafficking [movie]
Taken
Director : Pierre Morel
This film was taken in 2008, another movie made for the purpose of human trafficking. More likely based on sexual abusement of women, the story well expresses how serious and severe human trafficking is.
An old spy, retired and living with the happiness to see his daughter, finds out that his daughter, Grace, gets kidnapped in Paris through the phone. He tells Grace to shout out the criminals' physical appearance a lot as possible, and with these clue, he sets off to Paris to save his daughter from severe slave trade.
During the movie, Grace's friend passed away by overuse of drug, and other girls were basically just losing their mind, forced to mate strange men. The environment was not even close to a bar or motel, it was more likely a large tent divided with long cloth. It would be funny if the sex trafficking took place in a nice hotel, but it was possibly the worst picture of any girl's life that could happen. I was truly shivering in anger just to see some ordinary girls of my age being treated like that for no reason. It wasn't just 'trafficking', it was the worst thing any human can do to each other undermining human dignity.

Trade
Director : Marco Kreuzpaintner
Trade is a movie made in 2007, a very powerful film about human trafficking. Andriana, a 13-year-old girl, gets kidnapped by sex traffickers in Mexico on her birthday. Her 17 year-old brother, Jorge, finds out about his sister and sets himself to the states illegally to save her. On the other hand, Veronica is a single mom raising her child by herself in poverty; one day, she meets a travel agency that provides her a chance to go to the states easily, so she follows. Unfortunately, the travel agency was a trafficker. The girls are forced to be sold, by a large group of criminal gang, who makes money through their human cargo.
This movie ends with a quote from an aide whom in charge of the state department of U.S: "We are not finding victims in the United States because we're not looking for them." It's not that there are no victims, it's that no one tries to find them.

Rina : Human Trafficking [Internet]
http://ahavakids.org/
Child Trafficking is no longer a movie scenario, nor a story from a far far away land. It is growing as the second largest and fastest crime in the world. Most of children are currently used for prostitution, forced labor, child soldiers, illegal activities, and even for use of their body parts.
Ahava means love; Ahava Kids is an organization formed to rescue and care for young casualties suffering from child trafficking, enslavement and exploitation in the United States and throughout the world. Ahava Kids has created a process of Rescue, Relocation, and Rehabilitation, and already taken part of saving over 3000 people since 2003. They believe that it is the best way to rescue young victims from tragic misery. Don't just take a simple pity on them; think as if it was a story of your child, or any of your siblings. Do something.

Human Trafficking
Newspaper
Margaret Ahn
This article is about how the congress and government must strengthen laws in order to prevent human trafficking and help the young children and women stuck in this horrid buisness. It is an editorial in reference to the federal trafficking and victims protection act. Therefore there is an obvious bias as they persecute the pimps and the traffickers who instigate this act and defend the victims while also blaming the governement for not taking more necessary measures. The author's purpose in writing this article is to persuade not only the Congress and the government of their need to prevent this act, but to also persuade the world to pitch in and help, even if its by knowing of this tragedy and having that knowledge.
The media form is an articlein the New York Times, a very prestigious and well known Newspaper. It is effective because of the fact that it is a very well known Newspaper which makes it all the more effective since more people read it. The articles printed out in the New York Times is also on the internet which allows people from all over the world to read it as well. This message affects the way I think about the newspaper as well as the internet because it shows how we're such a global community and how news can be passed so quickly and efficiently.

Human Trafficking
Newspaper
Margaret Ahn
This article is about why people are thrown into human trafficking and how they actually become victims of it. The article quotes from a reporter of the National Bureau of Investigations which can create a bias for those who become victims of this trafficking by faking their identity. However, it also creates a bias for the particular countries where human trafficking is at large, since it is partly due to the nation's inability to create a stable working enviornment for everyone and so the large unemployment rate creates a bigger door into trafficking. This bias is shown because the "author" works for the Anti human trafficking division which automatically puts them on the side against this act.
This article was found in the newspaper which has potential effect since it is a widely used form of media. Although the article states that human trafficking has increased because of the web and the fact that people can advertise it through the internet, the web or newspapers also contain beneficial content in trying to stop and discourage human trafficking as well. Therefore, the effects of this medium is profound in that it is universal and prevalently used throughout since people not only read the papers but also use the internet very often. This message affects my thinking of the newspaper and the internet because it proves that the such media can actually be used for good and that its a great source in reaching the milions.

Rina's Reflection
I personally think internet is definitely the most influential type of mass media today. Internet has become one of the most important source today, a computer network used by over seven million users worldwide. Internet first was mostly used among teenagers or young adults, but now reaching diverse age groups beyond our expectations.
As an internet user, I would consider myself one maybe close to internet-addiction, but internet has that much amount of value for me. I personally favor and use MSN messenger, considered as chatting, or cyworld, more of a blogging, and shopping. I think internet provides numerous chances of communication, through different level of organizations of community, from facebook, to online news.

Radio
Radio is a type of mass media, an apparatus for transmitting certain programs or information to people through broadcasting. Radio is not only a transmitter but also a receiver of radio signals. It is also one of the oldest way of communication along with newspaper, when internet or television did not exist. Not many people use radio in current days, but radio is most definitely considered as an important type of mass media.
Reflection
Kenny Koo
I believe television influences me the most among few types of mass media. I do not usually watch television for entertainment, but I enjoy watching sport games. I especially spent most of my time watching Olympics these days. It has been hard for me to be balanced using time between studying and watching Olympics.
Television is the most effective way to advertise something. It is the best way to manage the big business because there are no limitations for audiences. For example, my father did an interview after a certain Olympic games in China. Even though not even 10 minutes had passed, over 10 companies had called my father for better opportunities and chances. Television, therefore, has been influential to not only me, but also to my family.

Reflection
Margaret Ahn
Internet definitely can be considered as most influential mass medium in my life. I waste time a lot by chatting with my friends, taking care of my blogs, and searching internet for interesting information or news. As soon as I sit down in front of my computer, time ticks crazily. I admit the fact that internet use had made me to be lazy.
I tried to stop doing those things by not touching the computer; however, school is forcing me to use computer more and more. As world is becoming opened to technology, education also offers more comfortable and accurate system to both students and teachers. I like doing my work by hand because there are no factors that lure me to become a procrastinator. Because more works are required to be done by technology like this blogging assignment, I tend to be more away from balanced life.
Although there are many negative effects that internet had caused me, I believe there are also positive impacts. For people like me who does not enjoy reading paper sources such as newspaper, I get to know the world situation easily by various internet sites. I think it is also a convenient way to express one’s opinion and to realize others’ perspectives in other part of the world. Internet, I believe, is a good mass medium when the time use is controlled.

television
Television is also a widely used telecommunication medium. People can see and hear messages that television station sends by satellites. It is similar to newspaper that it provides people information, entertainment, and advertisement. Television has no restriction of audiences, and young people can easily encounter this medium. Television is more entertainment-based compared to newspaper or other media.
newspaper
Newspaper is a written publication mass medium including news, information and advertisement. Newspaper is generally for adults who are exposed to society. It restricts illiterate audiences. Newspaper offers people various information by various features such as weather news, advice column, gossip column, and sports news. Rina's biography
Hello, my name is Rina. I am a senior at TCIS, getting ready to graduate. I've been here in TCIS since kindergarten, which makes it even more unbelievable leaving. I have an older sister and a younger brother; my sister also graduated TCIS last year. One unusual thing would be the fact that I'm eleven years older than my brother. My sister is two years older than me, but we treat each other pretty harsh like friends. My hobbies include traveling, watching films, listening to music, shopping, reading, writing, and playing piano, etc.
Biography - Margaret
My name is Margaret Ahn. I became senior this year and I think I have nothing much to say about me. I came to TCIS four years ago; before then, I used to go to Korean school. I love to sleep and listen to the radio. I consider myself as a lazy girl. Even though I'm not willing to, I often see myself complaining a lot. I have a brother who is 10 years older than me. Because of the age differences, my brother sometimes gives me many things including money. I enjoy talking with Rina about our unplanned future which always ends by complaining about our life.
Biograph-Kenny
Hi my name is Kenny Koo. I was born in 1989 July 4th. I love to waste time in bed watching movies, but I am so sad that I cannot do this anymore because I am so busy. I started playing drums when I was in 5th grade, so I think I am pretty good. I got my driver's license last September and that was the most valuable thing that I have ever done in my life. My dream is to earn 999trillion dollars, build my own race track and drive all famous sports in the world whenever I want to.
